Growing Up With See’s Candy

Screen shot 2012-02-15 at 6.55.38 PM

Growing up I would travel to California and visit my mom’s side of the family. I always looked forward to the treats that they had in California and could never get while living here in Missouri.

See’s Chocolate was one of those amazing treats that left me missing California. On the way home we would always stop by See’s Candy stands at the San Diego airport and grab a few boxes to bring home. Nuts and Chews chocolate mix is my absolute favorite!

What’s funny about this is that See’s candy is now available where I live. We have seen a See’s store inside of a department store and a stand or two inside of our local mall… Ironically I haven’t stopped to purchase a box from our local stores. Just isn’t the same.. or is it?

What things have you grown to love from other states and can’t get in your own state?

I have never seen or heard of See’s Candy. It looks really good. I lived in Missouri all of my life up until about 3 years ago and I moved to Colorado. I love the cashew chicken that is served in Chinese restaurants in Missouri. So when I got out here I had my craving for cashew chicken and have ate at so many Chinese restaurants trying to satisfy my craving and I have discovered that they do not serve it the same here. So every time I visit Missouri I try to fill up on cashew chicken.

I’ve always lived in Florida, but my hubby is from Michigan and he misses lots of things from up north. Mostly pickled bologna. He loves the stuff!

On the east coast they have “Steak N Shakes”, and they don’t have them on the west coast. But at least the west coast has “In N Outs”.

I love See’s candies too. There was a store a block away from where I worked when we lived in AZ. I love the charm of the shops and the outfits of the workers! I love their chocolate assorted lollipops. They were my favorite. I miss it a lot.

I love buy, beignets at Café du Mond. They are the best treat and have never had one at home. They are a tradition, when visiting New Orleans

I’ve heard a lot of good things about See’s Candy…and boy does that box of chocolate look good to me about now! I don’t know if there’s a certain food that I can’t get at home that I can in another state, but there’s a restaurant that I miss living in Indiana – Sonny’s BBQ. We always have to stop there when we’re in Florida…so good and the corn fritters are to die for!

I love the desert and I can’t have that in my state :)

You can take the girl out of the desert, but you can’t take the desert out of the girl. It’s a part of my soul and I miss it.

My favorite thing is from out of the country. I love dark chocolate Maltesers. Some specialty stores here have the milk chocolate ones…but no one ever has the dark chocolate ones!

I was born and raised in California, and See’s is definitely the best! Nuts and Chews is my favorite too (I just had a birthday the day before Valentine’s Day, so hubs bought me 2 boxes :)

Did you try the sourdough bread when you visited California? Our relatives from Wisconsin used to load their suitcases with it before heading home lol.

I guess one thing that I miss – is Squeaky Cheese! I haven’t been to WI in a long time, but I always enjoyed that. Oh, and pralines from Mississippi!

That chocolate looks so good!! We are military so currently living in NC and what I miss from PA is the Smith’s hotdogs! They were so yummy and I always craved them when pregnant. The other things I miss but it isn’t something you can buy is the smell of the concord grape vineyards we had across the street growing up (and further down the road). Come fall it would smell so amazing outside, I miss that smell.

That’s so funny! I grew up in CA and we always went to See’s to get suckers as kids. I had no idea it was a Cali thing. I still go all of the time. When I’m in the mall I pop in for a free sample (love that about their store) and some butterscotch squares. *sigh* They are heavenly.

I’ve only had See’s Candy a few times,… but it is fantastic! :)

We just went to South Carolina, and had Cheerwine for the first time. I’ve NEVER seen that before, but it’s sugary awesomeness.

I grew up here in Colorado and a trip to See’s store was a treat when we went down to Denver.
We have some pretty good seafood but I miss getting it fresh off the boats.

It’s not from another state, but from Canada – poutine. I got addicted to it when I used to go to our Canadian office several times a year.
