Decorating for the Holidays on a Budget

Decorating the home is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. Now that my kids are getting older, decorating is becoming more important to me. These are the memories that my children will remember!

Getting started with holiday decorating can be a costly task. But it doesn’t have to be!

There are a lot of great ways to decorate your home for the holidays on a budget.

Here are a few other ways that you can decorate for Christmas without spending a lot of money:

Decorating for the Holidays on a Budget

  • Hang a collection of glitter balls with ribbon and tulle from your curtain rod to give your room a little extra color. If you find a few Jo-Ann Fabrics coupons before shopping, this project could be done really cheap! Also, a lot of times if you go on Black Friday or the day after, these kinds of decorations can be picked up for next to nothing.
  • Glass jars and candles are so easy to find, cheaply! Fill them with corn, acorns, and candles, to make the perfect mantel accessory or table centerpiece. Last year, I purchased a few of these jars for less than $5 a piece, filled them with different color ornaments and tied a ribbon on for the perfect Christmas look.
  • We are creating memories for our children, so why not decorate our homes during the holidays with crafts made by our children? A wall canvas, paints, and the love from your little one’s hands, can create a sentimental holiday decoration that you will cherish for years.

These are just a few simple ideas of how you can spruce up your home during the holidays, the ones posted were all inspired by Pinterest.

It looks like it is made using a Styrofoam wreath and red boas..just hot glue it around the wreath. You will need at least 2 boas depending on the size wreath you use. Just glue a pipe cleaner or floral wire to the back of the letter and poke it into the Styrofoam where you want the letters to go.

I keep clicking on the santa wreath pictures, but it never takes me to the santa wreath directions. It always links back to this page with the Paper Dahlia wreath, the glitter balls and the handprint Christmas tree… which are all adorable, but I can’t seem to find the link for the directions for the Santa Wreath. Could you please show me where to find those? Thanks!

    Hi Kianna,

These were made out of styrofoam balls covered with red glitter. Hope this helps! Also, I’m not sure where she got those hangers that are in the picture.. but if I was making them, I would use a closed safety pin and push it down inside. The ribbon could tie into the looped hole at the end of the safety pin

Can you provide more detail on the hanging glitter balls? Do you purchase the balls already with glitter or do you have to diy? What do you place in the balls to get the ribbon or tulle on it to hang?

The lentil filled candle is very simple and pretty. Love it. Also, the Christmas tree hand is something I am going to do with my kiddos today! I am trying to do a few Christmas projects every week until Christmas and I have everything needed to do that. :)

My wife does most of the Christmas decorating. I wish I liked to put lights outside but I actually hate it. Seems like the light strands never work and it’s even more frustrating when you check them before you hang them and then they stop working after their up! Pinterest is a great site for decorating and recipe ideas and I am glad that I am now on it except I am always finding dessert recipes I want to try.
