Essential Oils for Eczema in Children

101_5423

Eczema is a chronic condition of dry, inflamed, red skin and we have been fighting this in our home since my son was 3 months old.

When my son was little we were asked by his pediatrician to use steroids on his face and body, while this worked for a short time my husband and I felt horrible about using strong medications on his face at such a young age.

We wanted to look into other avenues instead of using steroids and began our search on the internet.

We have had luck with a few natural baby products, however I’ve been looking more into options that help treat Eczema naturally with the use of Essential Oils.

To make a natural cream for treating Eczema, start with an unscented lotion and blend 20-25 drops of an essential oil to every 8 ounces of lotion.

A few of the essential oils that are helpful with treating Eczema are Chamomile, Tea Tree, Geranium, Clary Sage and there is a Lavender essential oil from LiveTru that I’m going to be trying.

Lavender is probably one of the most commonly used essential oil when treating Eczema due to its anti inflammatory, calming and anti bacterial properties. Also, there are extra added benefits to using Lavender as it is known to support your immune health and helps to alleviate stress.

Many of these oils offer different healing properties and can be blended together to create the perfect combination.

Have you tried treating your Eczema or your child’s Eczema with a naturally made remedy?

Yes I got mine as an adult, never suffered at all as a child. Mine broke out at the age of 45 I use Lavender as soon as I see a flare up coming and that is all I need. It dries it out and stops it from spreading.

I have a slight tendency to eczema, and rubbing the Made From Earth Lavender Lotion on the affected areas calms the inflammation within minutes. The Lavender does work ! Wonderful scent and the lotion itself, although extremely light and non-sticky, is very nourishing.

Love your blog!! the name is too cute and the graphic are quite eye catching! I just read this post about Excema. what has been your results from using those products for excema?
I personally have been using a brand of oils that I have been very happy with. I have been so happy with them that I now teach classes on them because they are so effective. If you want to compare oils, I can send you some samples. I personally used Lavender on burns. Since I cook a lot (i have 6 kids myself) I always seem to burn my thumbs or fingers. Just this last Sunday, got a steam burn from cooking a roast for Sunday dinner. Lavender took that sting away with one drop. Then one more drop a few hours later saved my skin from a blister or scar. Love my oils!! Look forward to reading more of your blog!

Essential oils are great! I like to blend them in Jojoba or factionated coconut oil as they don’t clog pores.

I have heard a lot about essential oils for different things. I plan to look into it further but this was an interest post. Sometimes I think God has cures closer to us than we know.

I never thought of lavender! I’ll have to try that. My daughter has dry, scaly skin all over… everywhere except the face. Lotions never improved her skin condition. Lately I’ve been slathering her with coconut oil every day, and it seems to be working a lot better than plain lotion, but adding lavender to the oil might be just the thing. :)

My son had eczema on his legs when he was 1. I used lotion after every bath and was way worse during summer months when really hot out. Now he doesn’t have it anymore.

What about tea tree oil? It’s an effective remedy for skin infection and inhibit the growth of certain bacteria, fungi and virus. There’s probably no way for you to fear for it’s ph level since it contains no water which means that it is at zero level which brings no harm at all.

Wow, this makes me want to clunk my head and say why didn’t I think of that! A large part of my family live in Delaware and every 4 months or so they come up to visit. Almost every visit one of them is having problems with their eczema. I don’t like seeing them putting medications on the little one’s faces. I’ll be sure to pass this on, thanks.

We use the soak and seal method with my dd. She soaks in a warm bath for 15-20 minutes every nite and within 3 minutes of getting out we apply Vanicream all over her body. While she is in the bath I dump water over head to keep her head and face wet so that skin will also drink up the moisture! She has had eczema litterally since the day she was born. Now you can’t tell she has eczema unless she is sick and then her skin becomes inflammed again and I will then add another bath in the day for skin to soak up the moisture. It has worked miracles for us, we have gone to bloody cheeks to beautifull skin! :)

I have been trying my own natural methods with since getting stared of disbelief from several disbelieving pediatricians.

I am currently using My Mama’s Love and Tea Tree oil mixed with coconut oil.

I wish I had known about this when my (now 3yr old) son was a baby! We also went to the Dr. and he prescribed the same ointments. If it gives you any encouragement, my son “grew” out of it! He doesn’t have even the slightest flare ups now!

I heard that evening primrose oil is good for it-but you take it by mouth. I have tried some natural things for my grandson but nothing we have used on his skin has really helped. His is a bit better with age but I think you can find ways to help it online. We give him fermeted keifer we make and now are giving fermented cod liver oil. Wheat can be a problem or some foods, too.

I’m wondering if adults can develop eczema… because I’ve been having these symptoms, but haven’t ever had it before. Maybe I’ll try some tea tree oil… I think I have some already.

    Thanks for the info!
