Tomato Basil Baked Mozzarella Cheese Sticks

This post is part of a sponsored campaign on behalf of Kraft. All opinions are my own.

Earlier this month, I showed you how to make baked chicken parmesan using the new Kraft Fresh Take Italian Parmesan Cheese and Breadcrumb mix. I’ve been given a new challenge card and have been asked to “Think Outside of the Box – Use Kraft Fresh Take in an appetizer!”. This is how the idea of Tomato Basil Baked Mozzarella Sticks was born.

Kraft Fresh Take can be used in a very easy way, simply coat chicken, fish, pork, and bake it to be paired with your favorite sides. Thinking outside of the box, I thought it would be fun to use the Kraft Fresh Take along with the New Kraft Tomato Basil String Cheese and make a baked mozzarella cheese sticks appetizer!

Kraft Tomato Basil String Cheese

To make Baked Mozzarella Cheese Sticks, you will need:

  • 1 Package of Kraft Tomato Basil String Cheese
  • Flour
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Kraft Fresh Take Italian Parmesan Cheese and Breadcrumb mix

Kraft Fresh Take Italian Parmesan Cheese and Breadcrumb mix

Start by cutting each of the tomato basil string cheese sticks in half. Place the string cheese onto a sheet of wax paper lined tray and then into a freezer.

Freeze the tomato basil string cheese until completely frozen. This is important!

Once frozen, remove the string cheese sticks from the freezer.

Start by rolling the cheese in the flour, shaking off any excess.

Then coat each stick in egg (egg beaters will not work for this, you will want to use a real egg).

Toss each of the egg covered string cheese sticks into the Kraft Fresh Take Mix and coat evenly.

*Tip* I used a spoon to maneuver the sticks around in the bag as my fingers caused the coating to fall off

Once your cheese sticks are coated, place them back into the freezer and allow them to become entirely frozen.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and cook for 4-5 minutes, flip and cook 4-5 minutes on the other side.

Make sure your string cheese sticks and completely frozen before cooking them, if they aren’t frozen then your oven may experience a gooey mess :)

PS. While we thoroughly enjoyed these Baked Mozzarella Cheese Sticks with the Kraft Tomato Basil Mozzarella String Cheese, you can replace them with any string cheese of your liking.

OMGosh I LOVE this idea! And I would have NEVER known to keep them frozen… I would’ve just baked them right away and made a mess haha. On another note, I’ve never heard of these cheese sticks, thanks for sharing! We buy tons of cheese sticks every week because of all the kids in this house.
