Tips to Choose the Best Home Security System

photo_1094_20060215When it comes to protecting your property, a home security system is an essential feature to have. Whether you need a simple alarm kit or a complete home security system, any major security company will have everything you need. Enlisting the services of a specialized company will not only bring you added protection, but help you customize your system to your own needs and requirements to protect the things that are most valuable to you. A full home security system will cover not only every single window, backdoor, and zone of your household, but can also be pretty expensive and you might not have the budget to have the system installed properly throughout your home. If this is the case, you can choose to simply protect only the essential areas of your house instead.

Home security systems can be divided into two general types: indoor alarm systems and outdoor alarm systems. Indoor home alarm systems protect the perimeter and inside of the house, with their primary objective to be preventing any unwanted intruders from entering. Indoor security systems utilize monitoring devices attached to the doors and windows to detect when they are opened.  Infrared motion detectors are not as useful as an infrared or better yet, a “real camera,” but they are a fraction of the cost and do essentially the same job as a camera – which is to identify an intruder.

Outdoor home security systems are designed to protect the perimeter of your property… they are designed to detect movement and to take a certain pre-designated action. These actions usually include turning on a flood light at night, sounding a siren or notifying a monitoring station.  Outdoor security cameras are usually offered in infrared, night vision, or motion sensitive (which uses infrared).   Once again, the optimal system for your home depends on the actual layout of your home… for example, a home on a poorly lit street would do well to use an infrared or night vision camera, while one in a better lit area should opt for a “rock camera” or other type of camera that can be hidden in open daylight.

Once again, the most effective type of home security setup is one that takes into account your home’s layout, neighborhood and your family’s lifestyle. Most home security companies offer a free security assessment, which includes a free review of your home for security weaknesses.  From there, they will recommend what kinds of security sensors to place and where to place them in your home. When buying the best home security system, it is best to find a local dealer that has a license to sell home security systems, and is an authorized dealer.

I think I get a false sense of security but in reality we don’t live in a great area and break-ins are a real possibility. Sounds like hubby and I need to consider strongly better security.
