The Italian Dish with Classico Sauce – Our “Go To” Dinner Recipe

Shares

Growing up, my parents had staples that they would make for dinner. I always knew that Thursdays were Pizza nights and Fridays we would have breakfast for dinner. When I got out on my own and could decide what to eat I wanted to break from the boring routine.

I love watching Food Network and many of the dishes they make had inspired me to recreate the same dishes for my (then boyfriend) husband. I had some hits and misses but there was one dish that became my go-to dish when I wanted something a little fancier than spaghetti!

We simply call it “The Italian Dish

ingredients

Ingredients-

  • 1 pound of spaghetti
  • 2 jars of your favorite Classico sauce (I used caramelized onion and roasted garlic)
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 2 diced ripe tomatoes
  • 1 pound of Italian sausage (I chose sweet but I’ve tried the hot before to give it a kick)
  • 1 cup of chopped fresh spinach
  • 1/4 cup of grated cheese (I used mozzarella but have also used Parmesan in the past)

Directions-

Pop the sausage in a 300* oven for about 20 mins. This will make the casing nice and crunchy without over cooking the meat inside.
In boiling water, cook the spaghetti for about 8 mins or until al dente.

Combine Classico sauce with tomatoes and garlic in a pan on about low/med heat. When the pasta is done, drain and add to the sauce.
After the sausage is done, slice and add to the pan with pasta and sauce. Mix it all together. Add chopped spinach and cover for about 5mins to incorporate the spinach and wilt it slightly. Serve and enjoy!

In honor of National Pasta Day I made this for dinner tonight. Our whole family loves the Classico Sauce and I love that the flavors are full and robust right out of the jar. Classico is celebrating, too, and wants you to try their sauce with your favorite pasta dish, or if you’re in a mundane routine like my parents were, feel free to try my Italian Dish! I can’t wait to try some of the other Classico sauce flavors, too. Living in Maine, I want to try my hand at some Lobster Alfredo with Linguine.
