Switching to Mineral Makeup | Tips & Tricks

I’ve been using traditional make up for years and recently decided to make the switch to mineral makeup.

What is mineral makeup?

Mineral makeup comes in many forms of makeup products, from finishing powder, blush, eyeliner and even mineral eyeshadow.

Application of the minerals consist of buffing them onto your skin, not like the traditional process that you are used to. The warmth of your skin will take the mineral makeup and liquefy it into a soft, natural finish.

Many women will argue over the benefits that mineral makeup claims to have. Some love mineral makeup because they are all natural, others because of the way it looks. I’m excited to give it a try and see what kind of look I can create.

Here are a few tips that I have received on how to apply mineral eyeshadow and achieve a natural look.

1. Moisturize your face before applying your foundation. Mineral makeup adheres to the oils in your skin, if your face is too dry then the powder may give you a powdering look, leaving dry areas of skin looking even more dry.

2. Use a good eyeshadow brush. When applying the eyeshadow, press the makeup onto your eyelids and try to avoid the natural sweeping motion you do with traditional eye shadows.

3. Applying the mineral eyeshadow to your eyes with a slightly damp brush can create a stronger color.

Do you use mineral makeup?

Do you have any tried and true tips that you would like to share?

I use Bare Minerals and love their face primer. It just seems to help it stay better as a foundation. For the eyes I usually put on Sephora’s eye primer (about $12 for a tube that will last forever).

No, I’ve never tried it. But then I don’t use regular makeup except when I’m performing.

Good tips. I have not tried mineral make up yet because my skin is really dry. The tip about the moisturizer was great. I think I may give it a try .

Thanks for the tips. The one I like best is slightly damping you brush for stronger color for your mineral eyeshadow.
