Many people are still working on their New Year’s Resolutions, including myself!

Fisher Nuts are a great source of fiber, vitamins and minerals. By adding nuts to your recipes it will help you become a healthier person all year round.

Before I had my son, who has a nut allergy, my family and I would add nuts to all kinds of recipes. My husband would take a baggie of mixed nuts to work every day. While they may not be the lowest calorie item on your menu, nuts contain proteins that can help satisfy hunger, fiber, antioxidants, omega-3s and monosaturated fats that will help improve your heart health.

Here is a super yummy recipe from Fisher that will help get you started to a better health

Simply Delicious Walnut Oatmeal

What you need:walnut_oatmeal

  • 3 ¾ cups water
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 4 teaspoons butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup non-dairy creamer
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • ½ cup Fisher® Chef’s Naturals Chopped Walnuts
  • Sliced strawberries, bananas and/or blueberries for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat water to a boil. Reduce heat to low; stir in oats. Cook until oats have thickened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Place butter and 4 tablespoons brown sugar in the bottom of a bowl. Pour oatmeal into the bowl and stir until butter and sugar are melted. Pour non-dairy creamer and milk into bowl and stir until incorporated.
  3. Pour mixture into 4 serving bowls and top with each with another tablespoon of brown sugar and 1/8 cup walnuts. Serve hot.
  4. Garnish with your favorite fruit, such as strawberries, bananas and/or blueberries.
