Silver Dollar City Theme Park – An Inside Look at Our Visit

Shares

On Sunday September 29th, our family had the pleasure of visiting Silver Dollar City located in southern Missouri near the town of Branson. We brought along some of our friends for the 3 hour drive and turned it into a weekend trip. With the opening of their newest coaster, Outlaw Run, we have been anticipating our visit all Summer long.

The weather was perfect, not a cloud in the sky and the temps were in the upper 70’s. October in Branson is always beautiful, specially with all of the trees changing colors.

Parking is free at Silver Dollar City and you have the option of riding the trams or walking to the front entrance to the park. We like our exercise, so we walked.

Upon arriving at the front entrance, we noticed how well themed the park was. Pumpkins, fall decor, and haystacks everywhere, the mood was definitely set for Fall.

The grown ups in the group were anxious to tackle the new for 2013, Outlaw Run, so we made our way to the back of the park. Since the park just opened up, there was no wait for the highly anticipated coaster, so we took three spins.

The only thing I can say is wow! That was the most intense wooden rollercoaster I had been on. The ride was smooth too, so re rides were must! My husband, the roller coaster enthusiast, dreams of visiting Silver Dollar City for an inside look at Outlaw Run.. it was just that. good.

The smaller kids were wanting to ride some rides, we made our way over to Fire in the Hole, the park’s indoor powered coaster. Andrea, at 3 years old, was barely tall enough to ride, so this was her first rollercoaster. She loved it! Fire in the Hole is a great starter rollercoaster.

After Fire in the Hole, we sat down and had some lunch. Since Andrew has a peanut and tree nut allergy we visited the Silver Dollar City website to see what our options were, the website was very informative with a list of safe options for eating and the staff was very helpful in helping us choose which meals he could have. Our choice ended up being the breaded chicken fingers, french fries and grapes. Perfect for our picky little eater.

After lunch, we made our way to Wildfire and Powder Keg. Wildfire was a fun ride, and the view from the top of the ride was unbeatable!

We got Andrew on Powder Keg and he was terrified, this was a pretty big coaster for a child. He said he did not like heights and it went too fast, but that didn’t stop him from riding the other coasters in the park.

The last major rollercoaster we rode was Thunderation. This was the first major rollercoaster at Silver Dollar City and it still thrills to this day. I personally love mine trains and this was definitely a good one.

To finish the day, we made our way back to the Grand Exposition section of the park so the kids could ride some of the more milder rides.
