Refreshing Our Bedroom Space with the Voice Of Color PPG Pittsburgh Paints

In the spirit of full-disclosure, I’ve partnered with PPG Pittsburgh Paints and received product, coupons, premium items and reader giveaway items as part of my participation. However, no payment was given or expected for posting about the program, and as always, all opinions given here are fully my own.

We’re redecorating here again! Another room badly needed a refreshing. This was my brother-in-law’s room. See the awesome pattern wallpaper? Yeah, that had to go.

However, I am no fan of peeling wallpaper off walls. I took on Pittsburg Paints challenge, The Voice of Color“Refresh Your Space”. PPG offers a swell line of household paint named Manor Hall. We received 2 gallons. One in “Spiced Cookie” and the other is “French Riviera.” We just designed a nautical theme for the kids room and for this space I’m thinking Paris. Maybe the “French Riviera” name invoked that.

I am not done with the decor, I’d like an appliqué of Le Tour Eiffel or a cafe scene. I’d love a little chandelier hanging from the ceiling and some bold curtains for the windows. For now though, the mission is the walls.

Manor Hall boasts Paint + Primer in one. It “Tints to all 1,890 colors in The Voice of Color®”

  • Walls and ceilings
  • High traffic areas
  • Children’s rooms

Seeing this, we followed the directions for wallpaper which was to simply wash it and peel away any loose pieces. This paper has been on these walls for over 10 years. My husband decided to take it a step further and mud over the parts we peeled off the wall. Unfortunately the primer in this paint is not appropriate for just any wallpaper. We had to peel off parts where the paper bubbled up, mud it, and repaint the areas.

The lighter color, “Spiced Cookie” was not enough to cover the pattern with just one coat so 2 coats were needed. That increase in work was disappointing. “French Riviera” is a much darker color so I thought it would make for a great accent wall. I love the color and for some reason it went on quite differently almost like glue!

I am really happy with the new colors in the room and I think the challenge was met by brightening the space, and adding the bold accent wall!

I love the accent wall! I love bright colors on walls but the accent wall is perfect for not overwhelming the whole room. And white frames look amazing on a bright wall :) Good color choice!

I love the colors…bummer it took two coats. We had to do two coats to cover a light green with a light grey, so I’d say 2 for covering that pattern isn’t too bad.

Love the new look! The room looks so warm and fresh now. I’ve found that lighter colors (even the ones that say they have primer in them) still need a good two coats to look good. We always do it just in case anyway.

Oh I love the new look! You are right. That old wall had to go! So not appealing! I love the bold accent wall. It really pops. And makes the room more brilliant.
