Old Fashioned Oatmeal Cake Recipe

This post is sponsored by the #BetterTogether campaign with Quaker. All thoughts are my own.

This past year, life with Andrea has felt like a blur. Four days a week, we have been helping her through both speech and behavioral therapy. Therapy has been our every day life.

Now that school is in session for big brother and Andrea has graduated into early childhood, we are spending more quality time together.

One of the things that brings us together is baking in the kitchen. We like to make tasty treats for our daddy and bubby!

Oatmeal Cake is one my favorite recipes to make during the holidays, the combination of oatmeal and milk make this a delicious treat with nutritious benefits.

Not only do you get calcium from both ingredients, the oatmeal will give you added fiber, protein and the milk offers protein, potassium and Vitamins D, A and B12. This is a great way to add more health benefits to your impending holiday baking!

I love spending the time to make things, like this delicious oatmeal cake, with my daughter. She just turned 3 and has a big interest in learning how to cook things in the kitchen.

Andrea was so excited to learn how to crack an egg!

Though this recipe is typically made with Walnuts, you can substitute with other nuts or leave them off all together.

Andrew, our almost 6 year old, is severely allergic to peanuts and walnuts so we substitute with almonds. Luckily, almonds are safe for him and still offer a lot of health benefits, in addition to the nutrients provided by the oatmeal and milk.

I hope you have a chance to try this family favorite!

I like the typical no bakes and oatmeal raisin cookies. I found a meatloaf recipe I want to try that calls for both oatmeal and milk. It sounds weird but looks yummy.

My favorite combo with oatmeal and milk is to make smoothies. The idea is from an Equadorian recipe for children, where they put oatmeal in the drink. I put fruit, milk, oatmeal and a little honey in a blender, and it makes a great breakfast treat!!!!
