Granola bars are not an easy snack to purchase for a child who has a nut allergy. My son is 5 years old and in those 4 years of his allergy existence, we have never found a granola bar label to be safe for nut allergies.

There are options for nut free granola bars options online, but when you are shopping in the store the added convenience would be nice to have a brand that can be purchased on a whim.

Homemade granola bars are the perfect way to enjoy this kind of snack without the risk of cross contamination.

You can take this base recipe for nut free granola bars and turn it into anything you would like. In our house, we enjoy SunButter and chocolate chips mixed into the granola bars.

This particular nut free granola bar recipe will not come out crunchy, this will be more of a chewy texture..think about a boxed granola bar that has been sitting in the sun for a while.

The recipe for nut free granola bars is so easy to follow. Anyone can do this! I was able to dig into my pantry and find everything needed. Basically you will take the basic nut free granola bar recipe, blend everything together and then add in your favorite mix ins.

Up to 2 cups of ingredients can be added into this recipe. I would love to try this with raisins and maybe even a dipped version in dipping chocolate!

Here are the ingredients that you will need to make these nut free granola bars:

  • 4 Cups of Rolled Oats, or Old Fashioned Oats – Both are the same
  • 1 Cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Cup Butter, Softened (It’s important to make sure it’s softened)
  • 1/2 Cup Honey
  • 1/3 Cup Packed Brown Sugar

That is the base recipe. From here you can add in anything you would like! I chose to add in 1/2 Cup of SunButter and 1/2 Cup of Nut Free Chocolate Chips.

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

Mix together all ingredients until well combined. Make sure the butter is completely blended in.

Lightly grease a 9 X 13 pan and then press your mixture into the pan.
