Making Travel Easier with Kids – Diono Radian RXT and Travel Accessories

*Products were received for purpose of this review. All thoughts are my own.

Our summer road trips have taken us through much of the state of Maine, during our long car rides I need to know that my kids are safe and comfortable. In July we participated in 2 weddings which required us to drive for hours. The more time you spend on the road, the risk of an accident goes up. I want to give my kids the best advantage in the event of a crash. Diono (formerly Sunshine Kids) has the technology and reputation that keeps kids safe.

diono RXT car seat and travel accessories

The Diono Radian RXT is the last car seat baby “M” will need. It comfortably seats rear-facing children from 5-45 lbs, forward-facing children from 20-80 lbs in 5-point harness, then converts to a booster for children up to 120 lbs. At nearly 20lbs M was outgrowing her infant carrier and is definitely ready for the next step.

diono RXT car seat and travel accessories

The Radian RXT is a unique car seat with 2 separate expiration dates. If you use the harness (up to 80lbs) the RXT expires 8 years from date of manufacture. If used as a booster without the harness, the seat expires 10 years from date of manufacture.

Diono’s Radian RXT car seat features a steel alloy frame, reinforced sidewalls, adjustable head support and our patented SafeStop® energy absorbing harness. EPS foam surrounds the child’s head and body to provide complete side impact protection.

Additionally, the RadianRXT boasts rear-facing tether capability to reduce seat rotation in the event of an impact, very few convertible car seats have that.

Although we did not travel by plane this summer, the Diono Radian RXT is approved for use on airplanes. It folds up quite slim but because of the weight I would not want to carry it through airports. If I could push it on a cart or with wheels it would be much better.

diono RXT car seat and travel accessories

Installing the Diono Radian RXT rear-facing in the back of my Wrangler wasn’t as difficult as I thought it might be. Our vehicle comes equipped with a LATCH system that is only available in the middle seat, so we went with a seat belt installation.

The Radian RXT is so soft and comfortable! She kicks her little legs and waves her arms when I get her in. I give the extra padding on the straps above and below the chest clip two thumbs way up! The soft material and little bit of cushion makes that area more comfortable and pretty much steers car seat novices (my grandparents!) in the right direction when it comes to positioning the chest clip on her chest.

diono RXT car seat and travel accessories

Did you know that Diono also offers travel accessories in addition to car seats? I didn’t!

One thing we are bad about is collecting trash on our trips. Just one stop at the convenience  store or to eat and we’ve accumulated garbage. Diono sent us some Bag It disposable trash bags to try out. They come in small containers that hold about 12 bags each.  The bags are 17″ and lightly scented to help control odors.

Whether it’s food containers, wrappers, dirty clothes, or dirty diapers, the light scent disguises the stink. Bag It is handy in size and doesn’t take up space. We use little bags a lot with 2 kids (and a husband, haha!) on the road. The rubber cord makes them easy to keep everywhere. No more trash all over my car! Hopefully it’s easier to keep it clean.

We love Diono’s products and each month we will be featuring new products from Diono! Stay tuned for your chance to win each month through December!

Visit Diono’s website for more information about the RXT and other travel accessories.

The SuperLATCH system because I remember when I was a new mommy bringing my newborn home. My hubby and I had the worse time trying to install the carseat at the hospital! I had been discharged and we couldn’t get this carseat to work at all! I was trying to ask the nurses for help, but they said it was against the law for them to help me. I had a breakdown and just started crying, and was so frustrated wondering how I was going to get my newborn home. We finally figured that crazy carseat out.

The feature I’m most excited about is that this car seat can turn into a booster. There are not many seats out there that can do it all – rear facing, forward facing, AND booster. What a great value!

I think the most exciting feature of this seat is that it serves as a booster up to 120 lbs! Additionally, it’s very “slim”. Most seats that “grow” with a child (and usually only up to 80-100 lbs at most) are VERY bulky. I drive a fairly large SUV, and I can’t put my two carseats side by side, thus creating a situation where my third row isn’t able to be accessed if needed. I LOVE THIS SEAT!
