Lose Weight & Get Fit with the BodyMedia FIT Link Armband | Review

BodyMedia

Founded in 1999, BodyMedia, Inc. is the pioneer in developing wearable body monitoring systems designed to help people lose weight, improve performance, and live a healthier lifestyle.

BodyMedia Link Armband

To achieve weight loss there are three things that are required, burning of calories, consuming of calories and getting a good quality sleep.

The BodyMedia FIT Link armband is an on body monitoring system that can monitor these things for you and help your weight loss goals become reality.

I received the BodyMedia FIT Link armband for review and had an opportunity to try it out for a few weeks. When I received the armband, included in the box was the BodyMedia armband itself, a cable for connecting the unit to your computer, directional booklets, an online activity manager, and free 3 month subscription.

BodyMedia Link Sensors

Here’s how it works:

There are 4 sensors on the underside of the armband that will capture over 5,000 data points per minute. Each sensor measures body heat and sweat to provide you with the most accurate reporting of your calories burned. The axis will measure motion and your steps taken. Because of the different data that is captured, the BodyMedia FIT can accurately report a calorie burn whether you are talking a light stroll around the neighborhood or a run down the beach with your dog.

BodyMedia Activity Manager

Once this data is captured, now you have to use it to your advantage!

Plug in your Body Media arm band to your computer and the data will automatically upload to your activity manager. From here you can track the food you have eaten, see how many calories you have burned, how much activity you have for the day, steps taken and your sleep duration.

Before starting with the BodyMedia Link armband you will be able to customize the activity manager to create your own personal goals. Personalize the manager with your current weight, your goal weight, how quickly you would like to lose it, then a custom plan will be built for you to help with your weight loss goals.

The data can even be detailed to see exactly what points in the day you were more active, along with a breakdown of your activity showing both moderate and vigorous.

BodyMedia Sleep Activity

The sleep data is what I really find fascinating! A breakdown of how well you are sleeping and how often you are waking up. I typically take a while to fall asleep, which you can see in the grey area, and my husband wakes up around 5:30 for work. I’ve noticed that the patterns seem to be the same each day with the most disturbance being in the morning hours. No wonder I’m always so tired!

Going to bed at 10:15 and not rolling out of bed until 7am.. over 8 hours and I’m only sleeping 7 hours of that.

BodyMedia FIT Link iPod

There are two BodyMedia FIT armbands, CORE & LINK.

The BodyMedia FIT LINK armband comes with Bluetooth technology, this will allow you to view your daily progress instantly from your iPod or iPad without having to take the armband off.

My Thoughts:

When I first received the BodyMedia armband the excitement level was high and to be honest I used it mainly to track my activity and sleep. It took about a week of seeing what all it would do before I took advantage of the calorie tracking. I’ve been using the BodyMedia FIT armband consistently for a little over a week now and I am down 5 Lbs.

Now that I’m used to how it works, and can trust the data to be accurate, I’m totally loving this idea and technology. I’m glad that I had the opportunity to try it with the Bluetooth technology, the instant data at my fingertips really helps to motivate me and keep pushing to meet my goals.

We all know that you have to burn more calories than you consume, now you can do it effortlessly!

    Hi Brenda,

The armband could cause a little bit of irritation if worn in the same place all the time. I switch the armband to the other arm each morning and let both arms rest for about an hour a day while I’m just lounging on the couch. I’m still wearing the BodyMedia and love it :) After a while you forget that it is even on your arm.

I can’t believe how amazing this little armband is!! How it keeps track of so much data – there’s no way you could possibly think about doing all of that the old fashioned way, with a pencil and paper! What totally blew me away though was this: “A breakdown of how well you are sleeping and how often you are waking up.” How awesome is that?!! My daughter has been trying to lose weight for quite a while now but nothing has worked for her. I think this would be perfect because she would have all of that data at her fingertips which she could then analyze and figure out exactly what is going on with her body at any given time! She has a lot of trouble sleeping, so I think that might be contributing to her lack of success, and this armband would help her figure that out too! I know I’m gushing, but I really can’t believe how terrific this system is! I’m going to forward her a copy of this post and have her do some research on it right away! Thank you SO much for bringing this to my attention! This could be just the thing my daughter needs to help her get healthy and lose some unwanted weight :D

I’ve looked at devices like that before, but in the end always decide we don’t have it in our budget to buy the device, most less the monthly subscriptions.

That’s really cool. I haven’t seen anything like this before. I need something to help me keep track of my sleep… make sure I’m getting a consistent amount instead of deprivation and catch-up.

I am fascinated with what technology comes up and how quickly. I think this product would be a good helper in the struggle of weight loss because it somewhat based on the same ideals as the sleep apnea ideals that with out a good sleep habit we are much more likely to gain weight and other severe health problems.
