Since speech therapy started in our home just a few short months ago, shape sorters have openly become a toy of choice with my little girl. We have been working a lot on expanding her attention span, learning speech sounds, colors, and finding the right toys that will motivate her during this learning process.
We started playing with the Little Tikes DiscoverSounds Shape, Sort & Scatter a few weeks ago. When the toy was opened up for the first time, Andrea did a lot of putting the blocks in through the top hole. I don’t think that she was prepared to see a shape sorter with holes on the side, versus the top.
We showed her how to play with the Little Tikes DiscoverSounds Shape, Sort & Scatter by placing the blocks into the side holes, she quickly picked it up and has been going to town ever since.
This shape sorter is definitely one of the most interactive and entertaining shape sorters that we have played with.
The Little Tikes DiscoverSounds Shape, Sort & Scatter is perfect for infants and grows with them all the way up into preschool.
How many toys can you say that about?
There are 3 modes that you can select from:
- Mode 1 – Perfect for learning shapes and colors. This mode is great to use for a free play as your baby can place brightly colored blocks into the shape holes and they will then be rewarded with the name of the block and it’s color.
- Mode 2 – This option is great for more experienced toddlers. When on mode 2, the fish bowl will ask your toddler to find a certain block to place into the respective shape. If your toddler chooses the right one, they are then rewarded with a green light. If your toddler chooses the wrong shape, the bottom then drops out of the toy allowing all of the blocks to scatter onto the floor
- Mode 3 – This mode is great for preschoolers who are familiar with their shapes and colors. The fish bowl will put your child into a race against time by calling out the shapes and colors to place into the respective holes. When the time runs out, the bottom of the fish bowl drops allowing all of the blocks to scatter.
Here is a short little video I put together of Andrea playing with Mode 1.
Andrea is 25 months old and definitely into toddlerhood. She has mastered mode 1 with this fun shape sorter and hopefully within the next few months she will be able to move onto mode 2.
My 4 year old is in preschool and finds mode 3 to be fun and challenging with the race against time to find all of the shapes before the bottom drops out.
The Little Tikes DiscoverSounds Shape, Sort & Scatter is one of Andrea’s toys that gets played with consistently on a daily basis. If you are looking for a Christmas idea that will keep your baby’s attention and won’t break the bank, this is it.
