Experience New Technologies from Intel at Best Buy – 3d Printing, Virtual Reality & More!

disclosure

Did you ever imagine being able to experience technology like a 3d printer or virtual reality? If you are like me, you’ve experienced these kinds of technologies through the use of media, but never had the chance to see or use them first hand.

The same with most Americans, we get excited about the opportunities to learn about new technologies, while half of us are frustrated about the lack of access to them beyond what they read or see in media.

Well now this is about to change!

Best Buy has teamed up with Intel to bring the new Intel technology experience to 50 stores around the nation. The Intel Technology Experience will let customers, from techies to technophobes, play, explore and be inspired by the power of technology with hands on activities.

I recently made a visit into my local Best Buy store to check out the new Intel Experience exhibit.

Experience New Technologies from Intel at Best Buy - 3d Printing, Virtual Reality & More!

The Intel Experience covers about 240 square feet and includes activities like 3d printing, racing on Mars in an augmented reality world, master beats and remix tracks by Ne-Yo as a digital DJ, and the latest PC and tablet devices powered by Intel Processors.

Andrea spent a good amount of time with the 3d printing station. She was able to create her own robot, choose it’s head, arms, body and legs, she could even choose her robot colors.

We didn’t come during a time when a staff member would be there for the printing, but each store is staffed with a specially trained Best Buy Blue Shirt to answer those questions and make the most of each area within the experience. Be sure to check with your store to see when someone will be there.

Andrew and I really loved the Mars experience. With the use of an Intel tablet, we were able to use augmented virtual reality to drive around Mars. I’ve never experienced anything like this before!

Simply hover the tablet over the landing pad on the Mars display and your vehicle comes to life. Using the pad, you can drive the buggy around and it appears like you are really driving it around on the display in front of you. Very very cool.

The final thing we experienced was the master beats and remix tracks by Ne-Yo as the digital DJ. The tablets work by letting you push buttons to add in extra sounds into the music. Then the other tablet worked by letting you interact with the display screen. When you choose the fog option, the screen will suddenly start to bring in the fog from the sides, there is also a confetti option so you can drop confetti from the top of the screen down onto the crowd. The DJ interacted with everything you did and it felt like we were right there in the scene.

It was really a neat experience to go hands on with such new technology. We’ve been hearing about 3d printers for a long time, but never thought there would be an opportunity to see one first hand. If you live near one of the 50 participating Best Buys, stop in and check out the Intel Experience!
