Designing a Nursery | Our Reveal!

Ever since we found out that we’re having a little girl I’ve had an itch to redo the kids’ room. We moved to Maine in August and decided that when M is old enough to leave the bassinet, she would share a bedroom with her big brother.

I wanted something that could be more girly, but not so girly that it would take away from a masculine theme for B. I knew we had to paint the walls to achieve this look. We often drive by a Sherwin Williams store that is near our house. One day we stopped in so I could look at the colors they had to offer. I love Sherwin Williams paint. When we got the opportunity to review their Emerald interior acrylic latex paint, I started to brainstorm theme ideas for their room.

A few months ago we took B on a ferry to Vinalhaven and enjoyed an afternoon adventure on an island that is serious about lobstering and fishing. Looking back at the photos from our adventure, a light went off in my head to go with a nautical theme. B’s bedding has lighthouses, compasses, and anchors on it so I thought it would do well. Finding inspiration on Pinterest was wonderful, too.

I ordered a nice light gray “Misty” for the base color of the walls, “Rose Colored” for the pink stripes behind M’s crib and “Rivulet” for accents. Before our move to Maine, I used the Fisher Price Room to Bloom tool to design the nursery in our Texas home. Naturally, I used the Room to Bloom tool for the nursery design in Maine because it is SO handy to actually see how it will come together. Our Fisher Price baby gear looks great in the new nursery and M definitely gets some use out of them!

I have a few more decorations to go up (a ship wheel, fishing net, and nautical flags), but the biggest part of the project is done.

My husband and I were SO pleased to see that it went up with excellent coverage and only ONE COAT. That means we got the gray up in one afternoon and could move all the furniture back to where it belongs in time for bed time that same night!

B loves his new room and several family members who have come to visit us and baby M love it, too!
