Winter Art Projects to Do With the Kids

Winter days like today are the perfect opportunity for fun with the kids. When I woke up this morning, the temperatures were in the low teens. There is no snow to be seen; in fact, we haven’t seen much all year and the kids are looking for things to do for entertainment inside.

Now that the Christmas decorations are put away, I thought it would a great time to sit down with the kids to make some winter art projects that could be hung up around the home. We grabbed the glitter, construction paper, crafting sticks, paper plates and a few Snack Pack® pudding cups for a tasty crafting time snack.

The lack of snow has made it difficult to get outside for fun. Let’s face it, as a kid, that is one of the best parts of winter! Snow forts, snowballs and making snow men, they’re all a part of the wintertime experience.

Since we couldn’t do these things outside, the kids and I decided to bring a little bit of the fun inside.

We used paper plates, construction paper and markers to create snowmen of our own! The kids choose custom color hats and even made fun details with markers.

Since snowmen kind of need snow, we even made some fun crafting stick snowflakes! The kids glued them together and decorated them with loads and loads of glitter. After they dry, we are going to hang them in the windows for a sparkly wintertime decoration.

When it’s cold outside, I have found there’s a wonderful opportunity to get crafty with the kids. There aren’t many opportunities for them to express creativity these days, and something simple like these two art projects is perfect for working on important skills such as coloring, holding markers and pencils, cutting and creativity.

I see this as a learning experience; the kids see me as a cool mom for spending time with them with crafts and Snack Pack® pudding cups. Win win!

Thanks for the ideas. My kids are already starting to get cabin fever, so any new ideas are more than welcome.
