Cool Whip Frosting Cupcakes

cool whip frosting

Tis the season to some baking!

This week my family and I have been baking non stop. Christmas parties at my husband’s work, at home for the kids and I, and even a batch for my mom (aka Nana). After the second batch of cupcakes, we were getting a little bored with the same ole thing. It was time to try something just a little different.

cupcake wrappers

So I headed out to our local Walmart to see what we could find. Out popped this amazing piece of perfection, Cool Whip Frosting! I put Cool Whip on everything, from pie, graham crackers, pudding, jello, and more. I knew this was going to be a good thing when Cool Whip Frosting could be spread on top of our favorite cupcakes.

cool whip frosting

I bought three containers of the Cool Whip Frosting, because really how can you choose between Chocolate, Vanilla, and Cream Cheese? I figure at some point we would use them all.

As the cupcakes were baking, I set the Cool Whip Frosting out on the counter to unthaw. The thawing process takes about an hour out on your counter or 4 hours when placed into your refrigerator.

cupcake icing

After anxiously waiting for our cupcakes to cool, I began to frost them. I noticed that the whipped texture of the Cool Whip Frosting made it really easy to frost the cupcakes. Regular frosting will often times tear the cupcakes, while the Cool Whip Frosting just glided right on.

christmas cupcakes

Cool Whip sent us these adorably cute Wilton Gingerbread Cupcake Wrappers so I went with a devils food chocolate cake mix, the Chocolate Cool Whip Frosting, all topped with little gingerbread men sprinkles.

The consistency of Cool Whip Frosting reminded me almost of a whipped mousse, but with the light airy texture of Cool Whip. Cool Whip Frosting is so easy to frost with and formed a perfect shape when using a decorating bag. Even a novice could frost with it!

baby eating icing

As I turned my back to grab the camera for a few cupcake pictures, Andrea snuck a taste from my decorating bag. I can safely say that she enjoyed the new frosting as well :)

We took our new cupcake creations over to Grandma’s house last night and they were a hit. I wondered how they would hold up on a 20 minute car ride and they stayed in perfect form. A quick chill in the refrigerator and the cupcakes were good to go! I think we have a new holiday baking tradition thanks to Cool Whip Frosting.
