Furby first debuted in 1998, this was the hottest toy of the holiday season and everyone had to have one. Including me! I had collected so many furbies, and then the Shelbies came out. Shelbies were the little clam like characters that interacted with Furby. There was something about Furby and their different personalities that made me fall in love.

Now, this holiday season, the Furby is back and better than ever! Many people have gawked at the new price tag of $59.99, so I decided to review this little guy and see what makes him new and improved.

So right out of the box, Furby is cute and creepy at the same time. Furby now has electronic eyes that animate with the interaction of your child. But the creepiness doesn’t last long, once batteries are added to your new friend he will come to life and show you those fun bouncy eyes!

This time around, Furby is made to interact with the Furby App that is available for free download at the Apple App Store. In the Furby App you can now feed Furby from the pantry or from the deli, use the translator to understand the Furbish language, and more.

Here is a quick video of how the app works and an introduction to Furby 2012:

This new Furby will interact with your child in many ways that the old Furby did.

You can pet his head, rub his belly, turn him upside down, stick your finger in his mouth to feed him, speak to him, and more.

There are some added functionalities to this new Furby. Such as pulling his tail, tickling his tummy, and even turning on some dance tunes will make him move and groove.

One big difference that I noticed was how Furby was built. He is no longer a stiff body! Furby has joints that will allow him to move in a more realistic manner. Also, Furby’s fur is so so soft! I remember the fur on the first Furby and how it would quickly mat up, this is a huge improvement on the overall appearance of Furby 2012.

Here’s a quick video of my Furby dancing to music from our iPad, he’s so cute!:

So Furby doesn’t speak Furbish forever, he/she slowly learns how to speak English over time. Your Furby’s personality will come out and you will find that he has a mind of his own!

Your Furby may have a bad attitude, some responses that you receive may surprise you!

I have been playing with our Furby for a little while and we are quickly learning that he may be a SHE, with a valley girl personality.

Take a look for yourself!

So after playing with Furby and learning all of the new improvements, I can see why the price is more than it was in 1998. Furby is so much more interactive, more animated, and is full of personality. While the suggested retail price is $59.99, I’ve seen Furby on sale around many places so shop early and you can grab a deal on this fun toy.

I’m already in love with our Furby and can quickly see us growing our collection.
