Since I’m a little ways away from New York City, we are celebrating in my home with a bark recipe using both American Heritage Chocolate and M&M’S. It’s almost Christmas time, this would make a delicious holiday treat for teachers, service men and women, neighbors and even for your own family.

Little History Fact

Did you know that chocolate has only been eaten as a candy or confection for a little over 100 years? For centuries, our founding fathers enjoyed chocolate as a hot beverage.

American HeritageTM Chocolate was developed from colonial chocolate recipes from the 1750’s and will be available in four formats for drinking, baking and eating at M&M’S World®:
• Chocolate Sticks: Individually-wrapped single serving chocolate sticks
• Chocolate Bites: Individually-wrapped, bite-size chocolates in a keepsake muslin bag
• Chocolate Block: Two chocolate blocks, perfect for grating, chunking, shaving or baking
• Finely Grated Chocolate: Re-sealable canister filled with a bag of finely grated chocolate for drinking or baking

Made with all-natural ingredients and no preservatives, American Heritage Chocolate is an artisanal dark chocolate containing 63% cacao. American Heritage Chocolate is flavored with a blend of spices and ingredients available during colonial times, including cinnamon, nutmeg, chili pepper, orange, anise and vanilla making for a mildly spicy, and slightly sweet treat. The product line is Kosher-certified, made without dairy, wheat, peanuts, or tree nuts, and is made in a facility that does not contain peanuts and tree nuts

I’ve been changing out all of my holiday recipes to use American Heritage in place of baking chocolate. It’s a 1:1 switch and gives a dark taste mixed with spices that will give your recipe a unique taste. All of my friends love it, we do too!

Hope you have a chance to try it and use it in my American Heritage Chocolate & M&M’S bark recipe.

Ingredients

• 2 American Heritage Chocolate blocks

• Squirt of honey

• White Chocolate Chips

• M&M’S

• Water

If you have a double broiler, that will work perfectly. If not, you can place a metal bowl (or in my case my kitchen aid mixing bowl) on top of a boiling pot of water.

Melt the chocolate until almost completely melted, when it starts to thicken up, add a splash of water and a splash of honey to the chocolate and continue to melt. The water will help the chocolate spread better.

Spread your melted chocolate onto a silicone baking mat and then sprinkle with chopped up M&M’S. Pat the M&M’S into the chocolate to make sure they will stick after hardening. Place it into the freezer and proceed with the next step.

Wash out your metal pan and then melt your white chocolate chips until completely melted. When done, pull your pan out of the freezer and drizzle the white chocolate on top of your bark with a fork.

Place back into freezer for a couple of hours until good and hard. Once hardened, break apart bark pieces with a knife or use a pizza cutter to make more precise pieces. Enjoy!
