Calico Critters Cozy Cottage – Gift Idea
I love toys that allow you to build on a collection. I’ve found these go a very long ways in keeping children engaged with the toy, and save them from being set aside to the “lost interest” pile of toys, that seems to grow rapidly with each and every day!
Another great thing about building collections is that they create a very easy incentive for encouraging children to earn! When pieces of the collection are earned, it seems that the child values them much more than if they are simply given a toy as a gift!

If you aren’t familiar with Calico Critters, they are adorable miniature creatures that live in a very neat home decorated with life-like furniture and accessories. These miniature homes are very realistic, and closely model a real home. Each and every character in the Calico Critter community (Cloverleaf Corners) plays an important role in the community! I love how this teaches children how important it is for them to play an active role in their very own community.
We received the Calico Critters Cozy Cottage, and I highly encourage this as a starter piece if you are looking to get your children started building a Calico Critter collection of their very own. The cottage comes equipped with 10 furniture pieces and accessories, including Bell Hopscotch Rabbit. Accessories include a bed with matching sheets, a kitchen counter with a sink and oven, and moveable ladder fo easy access to each floor. There is also a square table with chairs, cookware, and yummy food for the kitchen!
If you’re like me, your immediate thought goes to how long this must take to put together! Not an issue! The cottage actually comes fully assembled and ready to play!
I absolutely love this miniature play set, and the way it encourages Andrea to imagine, pretend, and share her own experiences through play! While this particular play set is recommended for children ages 3 to 4, Calico Critters are a great collectible for children of all ages!
