Big Family

Having a big family means a lot of things to me but one of the things I wasn’t prepared for was the responsibility. I figured it would be all crying babies and hand-me-down clothes but boy, do I wake up in the morning feeling really responsible for feeding 6 other mouths. My wife does a great job here at home holding down the fort but at the end of the day I know it’s up to me to provide for this family in a way that means we’ve got enough to eat and enough things to keep us sustained. For example, the adt security systems at the house? Those were my idea because I just feel a lot of responsibility towards my family being protected at home. I just was raised that as a man I need to do my best to ensure the safety and happiness of my family and that’s still what I strive for each and every day. Who would have guessed that after only a few years I had this much responsibility?
I have a large family, six kids, and this is the way we handle security at our home. Because our nearest neighbor is over a quarter of a mile away, and sheriffs would probably get lost trying to find us, I am the security at our home. I have met quite a few Los Angeles police officers that come out to our desert to relax. They told us that if we have an intruder, or someone that just comes onto our property (five acres) threatening us, that I was the one to shoot them–not my husband (we were told that not many courts believe that a man, especially a big man, would have to resort to shooting a threatening individual to protect his family). All I have to say is that I was afraid, that the person was threatening us, and I felt the need to protect my family. So if we have anyone lingering outside of our fenced property (usually off-roaders), my husband will go out to talk with them, but I am behind him about 100 feet with my rifle. This usually deters trouble.
That is amazing. A big family is fun, but there is lots of responsibilty. More power to you.
I can’t imagine have a big family like that for many years it was just my daughter and I. Now I have a boy who is almost two and my daughter is almost 18.
Same here Janet W. I have 2 kids and that’s enough to drive me krazy, I can’t imagine having 6.
Wow I couldn’t imagine having that many kids! SO much responsibility. I felt like I was going to go crazy with just 2 kids!
