Many baked apple recipes involve baking in the oven, tons of added ingredients and you end up with a treat that is overloaded in sugar and calories. This recipe eliminates both of those factors, which makes it even more satisfying to indulge in.

How to Make this Easy Baked Apple Microwave Recipe

When I say this recipe is simple, that’s an understatement.

Start by skinning your apple, if you choose to take the skin off. Then, slice your apple up with a knife or make it easy with an apple slicer.

Place the apple into a microwave safe dish, sprinkle the sugar substitute across the top, mix together the cinnamon, water and cornstarch in a small bowl and pour across the top of your apples. Cover the container, leaving a vent for steam and microwave for about 2 minutes.

For a little extra sweetness, you can add a dollop of cool whip free.

When I want an evening treat, this quick and easy baked apple is what I turn to.

Oh my goodness, this is delicious! Just like apple pie – I don’t like the pastry part anyway! I topped it with greek yogurt mixed with caramel skinny syrup. YUM!

You could try it! The Splenda I use is the Splenda naturals which is made from Stevia

Wondering if I could use stevia instead and if the flavor would still be good?

    Hi Amanda,
I bake a Rome Apple in the oven with 2 tsp brown sugar. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on each, Bake in a dish with a little water on bottom of dish. I’m assuming this is only 2 smart points. Am I correct?

Hi Jessica! A quick little stir before popping into the microwave is all you need. I will update the post to reflect that. Thank you!

Silly question but for the cornstarch do you sprinkle it over the apples like with the sugar? I wasn’t sure about that step.

Thanks for the inspiration! I added steel cut oats for a “crumble” effect.

We do this recipe frequently! It’s so good. For a real treat, top with 1 tablespoon of granola immediately before serving. It’s like apple crisp, without the guilt.

Hi Tracy! This post has been circulating on Pinterest for quite a few years now. When originally created, the recipe was 2 points. I’ve updated the post some time ago to remove that information. Sorry for any confusion!

I really dont get where the points come from apple is freeand I use stevia cinnamonnis free water is free and its only a1/4 tsp corn starch so where are the 2 points? Im going to have to take this to my meeting!

  • January 28, 2017 at 1:55 pm

So does the two points come from the cornstarch?

There are points because it is cooked. Its’ properties change a bit. But 2 points is not a big deal.

Under Smart Points, the WW Recipe Builder gives this 0 points. Smart Points makes a lot of difference. Some things have more points and others less from their previous programs. I pretty much double check everything, especially if it just says “points” and doesn’t specify that it’s Smart Points.

Ah, I see. Well then I don’t like recipe builder. LOL~ If I eat a medium apple it’s 0 points, but if I use it in a recipe it’s 3 points. Kind of disappointing, but I made the apple yesterday anyway…delicious.

When all of the ingredients were put in as a “recipe” in the builder, it came out to 2 points.

Love baked apples. I’m wondering though, where do the 2 points come from?
